Compressed air can be used for the storage and transport of excess energy.

300 liter tank or 0.3 m3:

  • for  Pa =  300  bars, Energy = 31  500  K J  = 8.75  kWh

  • for Pa  =  100  bars, Energy = 9  576  K J  = 2.7  kWh.

  • for Pa  =  300  bars we have 126  kg  air

  • for Pa  =  100  bars we have 42  kg  air.

"The City of Paris, a unique case in the world, will have had, until 1994, an urban network of more than a hundred years of compressed air distribution at 6 bars, extended to all the districts and to the inner suburbs (Compagnie Parisienne d'Air Tablet that will become the  Urban Compressed Air Company  -  SUDAC ). The goal pursued by Victor Popp, the promoter of this network, was the distribution of motive force while the  electrical networks  did not yet exist. The air powered small engines in many workshops. It was also used to make cold (by relaxation) in the coffee-lemonade makers of the capital and to the operation of innumerable hydropneumatic elevators in the beautiful buildings. An independent network controlled by a central clock controlled the clock mechanism  public and private thus unifying the time in the city. "
